The best traits for sure determination are the dominant greenish hue to the back plumage, most noticeable in bright light, and the white area over the wing. Considered a medium-sized bird. Males and females are similar, although females have less white on the wing. This spot can be seen both when the bird is in flight and at rest. There is just a small fork in the tail that is mostly black. Beak and legs are black.
