Quando est\u00e3o em per\u00edodo de descanso reprodutivo suas penas ficam com aspecto mais apagado.\u00a0 No macho de caboclinho-de-peito-castanho,\u00a0 \u00e9 cinza-azulado nas partes superiores e castanho nas inferiores e a f\u00eamea \u00e9 marrom-oliv\u00e1cea, mais p\u00e1lida e amarelada nas partes inferiores. As fem\u00eaas do g\u00eanero Sporophila <\/em>s\u00e3o bem parecidas entre s\u00ed, o que dificulta muito a identifica\u00e7\u00e3o.\u00a0 S\u00e3o gran\u00edvoros. When they are in a period of reproductive rest, their feathers look duller. In the male Chestnut-bellied Seedeater, it is bluish-gray on the upper parts and brown on the undersides, and the female is olive-brown, paler and yellowish on the undersides. The females of the Sporophila genus are very similar to each other, which makes identification very difficult. They are granivores.
