Common in the interior and on the edges of terra firme forests, gallery forests and arboreal stands. Apresentam a cabe\u00e7a, topete e pesco\u00e7o vermelhos. Partes inferiores ocres ou vermelhas, partes superiores pretas. Como a grande maioria dos pica-paus, se alimentam de insetos, larvas e frutos. Comum no interior e nas bordas de florestas de terra firme, florestas de galeria e capoeiras arb\u00f3reas. Vive normalmente aos pares, em alturas vari\u00e1veis, desde o sub-bosque at\u00e9 as proximidades da copa.<\/p>\n
