Machos e fêmeas são completamente diferentes quanto as cores da plumagem. Os machos apresentam cabeça, garganta e peito uniformemente preto-azulado, e a barriga alaranjada. Já as fêmeas possuem cabeça e asas num tom verde acinzentado, garganta e barriga cinza claro e o resto do corpo amarelo. Procuram seu alimento nas epífitas e comem frutinhos e pequenos artrópodes. Vivem nas copas das árvores em áreas terra firme e matas de várzea ou em plantações, seguindo bandos mistos.

Males and females are completely different in terms of plumage colors. Males have a uniformly bluish-black head, throat and chest, and an orange belly. The females, on the other hand, have a grayish green head and wings, a light gray throat and belly, and the rest of the body is yellow. They look for their food in epiphytes and eat berries and small arthropods. They live in the treetops in terra firme areas and lowland forests or in plantations, following mixed flocks.
